The U.S. Congress and Global Health: A Primer

2019

This primer, published by the Kaiser Family Foundation, provides a summary of how American legislative bodies are structured and some of the key actions that they can take, including examples of legislation that relates to global health. It aims to provide a basic framework with which congressional efforts in global health policy can be understood. It then provides more detail about two specific examples—the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the West Africa Ebola outbreak—of congressional engagement in global health issues. It also provides insight to issues and opportunities related to congressional efforts for the future.
