NewseumED is an educational portal, offered by the Newseum, which provides free online resources to cultivate skills to analyze information from a variety of sources and to provide historical context to current events. All of the teaching resources are grounded in NewseumED's mission to use the First Amendment to highlight the challenges and ideals of our democracy and cultivate the media literacy and decision-making skills needed in a diverse and interconnected world. Users can browse EDLessons which include standards-aligned lessons, activities, case studies, and a variety of other teaching materials; they can filter by topic, theme, grade level, format, and more.
Many of the teaching resources, both historical and contemporary, are relevant to health conditions, health systems and policy, and the social determinants of health, such as education, housing, political disenfranchisement, and violent conflict. Other useful features include:
- Media literacy resources on developing media literacy skills, such as The Fundamentals of News. Units on the ethics of journalism, such as media ethics, photo ethics, and ethics of covering catastrophe, are also available.
- Curated collections that explore important topics in-depth using primary sources, such as Women, Their Rights and Nothing Less.
- Classes and trainings for students, educators, and adults.
- Educator tools, such as digital artifacts, lesson plans, and debates, that are organized by topic, grade level, and historical era, and classroom ideas.
