PBS LearningMedia

2024

PBS LearningMedia is an educational portal that offers free digital content and professional development resources for PreK-12 educators. Developed in collaboration with the WGBH Educational Foundation, teachers can filter by grade level, topic, and resource type (e.g., audio recordings, videos, images and documents, interactives and lessons based on or derived from historical and contemporary PBS media). Resources are aligned with various state and national standards. The site offers resources related to health conditions, determinants of health, and responses from within and outside the health sector.

For example, check out the teaching guides, Exploring the Yellow Fever Epidemic and Exploring the Polio Epidemic and Vaccine, that can be used by educators together with their specific primary source sets, The Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1878 and There is No Cure for Polio (offered by the Digital Public Library of America, or DPLA). Check out the PBS LearningMedia collection and find additional teacher guides and primary source sets at DPLA.

Users can toggle between teacher and student "views" and create an account to save and share resources. Access the student learning portal and a suite of productivity tools for teachers, which includes the storyboard, quiz maker, and lesson-builder. These new features make it easy to create personalized learning experiences for students to explore inside or outside of the classroom.
