Management Techniques in Calibrating Oral Health Screening Systems
2015
This case study describes efforts by the Middlesex-London Health Unit to develop a best-practice guideline for the clinical calibration of school-based oral health screenings for children in London, Ontario. (Clinical calibration is a comparison of agreement between clinicians, or against a verified standard, to achieve a clinical gold standard.) This process involved observing and assessing the entire calibration system and making statistical analysis recommendations for the oral health team to ensure that no child was overlooked due to inconsistent measurement outputs.
The case includes guidance for instructors, including learning objectives and discussion questions. This case is part of a 13-case collection written by students in the inaugural MPH class of the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health at Western University, Canada. The cases may be copied and used free of charge without permission for any educational uses by an accredited educational institution.
