Millions Saved: Controlling Trachoma in Morocco
2007
This case describes Morocco’s successful implementation of a program that lowered the incidence of trachoma, the leading preventable cause of blindness, to less than 10 percent among children under the age of 10. Program tactics included using a combined strategy of surgery, antibiotics, face washing, and environmental change.
This case study is part of Millions Saved, a collection of case studies produced by the Center for Global Development that describes successful examples of large-scale efforts to improve health in low- and middle-income countries, as well as promising interventions that fell short of their health targets when scaled-up in real world conditions.
