Poverty in a Rising Africa: Africa Poverty Report

2016

This report from The World Bank provides an overview of poverty in Africa, including challenges in poverty measurement and trends in poverty reduction. It is the first in a two-part volume seeking to improve the understanding of poverty reduction in Africa (report 1) and articulate policies to accelerate it (report 2). This report consists of four chapters that describe the availability and quality of data needed to track monetary poverty, governance, and political processes underpinning current data production, and approaches to addressing data gaps; evaluate the robustness of poverty estimates in Africa; broaden the view of poverty by considering nonmonetary dimensions of well-being; and review evidence on inequality in Africa.
