Global Tuberculosis Report 2023

2023

This report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides a comprehensive, up-to-date assessment of the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic worldwide. Using data from 192 countries, the 2023 edition of the report examines progress in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of TB at global, regional, and country levels. The report analyzes TB disease trends and updates progress toward meeting global TB targets. This year’s report also includes featured sections on new treatments for TB and the risks of TB in prisons. The 2023 report finds significant global recovery in the number of people diagnosed with TB and receiving treatment in 2022, representing a slight reversal in the treatment disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the report finds that 7.5 million people were newly diagnosed with TB in 2022; it remains the second leading cause of death from an infectious disease worldwide.

A digital version of the report is available, along with additional resources including TB country profiles, a summary of key messages, and an online fact sheet.

To learn more, explore the WHO's web portal for TB, which hosts reports, news, briefs, and fact sheets. The WHO TB data page features country profiles, data visualizations, and downloadable CSV files with the latest data submitted to the WHO. (Data may be more recent than that used for the report.)
