Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity

2017

This report from the National Academies Press explores how communities in the United States are addressing health inequities. Some populations experience greater health disparities than others, due to community-wide issues that affect housing, transportation, education, interpersonal violence, and poverty. Social policies can help mitigate inequities to improve health. The report highlights examples of communities tackling such inequities, policies that support potential solutions, the role of partners across sectors, and cross-cutting community tools to foster collaboration. An appendix specifically considers the historical and legal context of Native American health. The report also serves as the foundational resource for an associated web portal, “Pathways to Health Equity,” with infographics, a comic book, and downloadable sector briefs that illuminate the links between health and non-health sectors.
