Lancet Series 2014: Homelessness

2014

This Lancet Series on homelessness in high-income countries notes an increased prevalence of a range of illnesses in homeless people compared with the rest of the population, yet just treating ill health might not be enough to help get people off the streets. As many as 4 million Europeans and 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year, and the numbers are rising. The series papers survey the available scientific literature, providing clinical and policy recommendations, and provide a narrative outline of interventions to improve the health of people who are homeless. The Series highlights the negative impacts of homelessness on physical health, mental health, and life expectancy.
