WHO Fact Sheet: Climate Change and Health

2023

This fact sheet from the World Health Organization (WHO) focuses on how climate change affects the social and environmental determinants of health—clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food, and secure shelter. While global warming may bring some localized benefits, such as fewer winter deaths in temperate climates and increased food production in certain areas, the overall health effects are likely to be negative. The negative impact of extreme heat, weather-related natural disasters, and shifting patterns of infection will be felt globally, but areas with weak health infrastructure and vulnerable populations will be disproportionately affected.
