The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping people affected by conflict and armed violence around the world. It responds to emergencies and promotes the implementation of international humanitarian law to ensure the health and human rights of victims of war and violence. It aims to protect the lives of affected populations, strengthen law and humanitarian principles, and apply the seven principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality in its work.

The ICRC works in over 100 countries but has key operations in several countries and territories including the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Lake Chad, Myanmar, South Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The ICRC takes action in response to disasters, emergencies, and conflict zones and focuses on several areas of health and human rights: sexual violenceclimate change and conflicteconomic securityenabling people with disabilities and physical rehabilitation, supporting internally displaced people, and water and habitat. A primary focus of the ICRC is implementing international humanitarian law (IHL), treaties, and policies to support the people it protects. It also provides users with access to an online library with legal documents and cases, maintains a newsroom, and a digital archive of all of the ICRC’s documents.
