Depression and Other Common Mental Disorders: Global Health Estimates
2017
This report from the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the latest available data about common mental health disorders at the global and regional levels. Common mental disorders—defined as those in two main diagnostic categories, depressive disorders and anxiety disorders—affect hundreds of millions of people around the world. This publication describes the prevalence of these disorders by age, sex, and region, and quantifies the resulting loss of health and functioning by multiplying their prevalence by the average level of disability associated with them. Its appendix includes estimates on prevalence and disease burden for individual countries in each of the WHO regions.
