Global Risks Report 2024

2024

This report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) examines the current landscape of global risks and their long-term implications across economic, environmental, geopolitical, societal, and technological categories. The report shares the latest results of the Global Risks Perception Survey (GRPS), which identifies severe risks the world is facing in the short and long term. As the world grapples with increased global conflicts, extreme climate conditions– including wildfires, droughts, and flooding– and growing societal discontent, the 2024 report describes a predominantly negative outlook in the face of global shocks over the next several years. This year’s report analyzes four structural forces that shape global risks: climate change, demographic divides, technological acceleration, and geostrategic shifts. Misinformation and disinformation ranked as the most severe global risks in the next two years, and the other top short-term risks include extreme weather and societal polarization. Over the next decade, the fastest deteriorating global risks were critical change to Earth’s systems and biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse, with extreme weather events being the most severe risk over the long term. Through this publication, the authors and contributors aim to outline the greatest threats to societal stability and develop sustainable solutions for long-term prosperity and resilience.

Accompanying the report are shareable infographics displaying results from this year’s report, an executive summary, and a data portal.
