Population Council

2024

The Population Council has worked for the last 70 years to inform critical health and development issues through social science, public health, and biomedical research. Their mission is “to improve the well-being and reproductive health of current and future generations and to help achieve a humane, equitable, and sustainable balance between people and resources.” Integral to this mission is to make scholarship more open, accessible, and reusable and to provide the broadest access possible to evidence-based analyses.

The current strategic plan is intended to contribute to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a commitment to four goals that reflect the following urgent global challenges: (1) Ensure sexual and reproductive health, rights, and choices; (2) Empower adolescents and young people to reach their full potential; (3) Achieve gender equality and equity; (4) Pursue justice in the face of climate and environmental changes. Users can explore projects and resources for each of these major areas.

Users can also take advantage of the Population Council’s open access repository for research published by the Council and its collaborators, the Knowledge Commons, which contains research studies, statistical reports, working papers, books, briefs, toolkits, multimedia, and other resources on biomedical, behavioral and social science, and development topics.
