edX

2024

edX is an online learning platform that offers free, high-quality courses to learners everywhere. edX was founded by Harvard University and MIT and now partners with more than 90 global members, including leading universities, nonprofit organizations, and research institutions. It offers more than 1,600 “massive open online courses” (MOOCs) on subjects ranging from architecture and art, to engineering and food/nutrition, to physics and social sciences. A number of courses focus on issues related to public health and global health, including global governance, health systems, infectious and emerging disease outbreaks, humanitarian responses to conflict, and the health effects of climate change or water quality. Students can also enroll in multi-course “micromasters” and certificate programs, some of which offer an option to pursue credentials upon completion.

edX conducts research on pedagogy, leveraging its unique online environment in order to better understand how students learn and to develop best practices, with the goal of improving teaching and learning, both on campus and online.
