World Development Report 2018: Education

2017

The 2018 edition of the World Development Report (WDR), published annually by the World Bank, is the first-ever to focus entirely on education. It explores four main themes—education’s promise; the need to focus on learning; ways to make schools more effective for students; and how to make systems work for learning—and includes six “spotlights” that highlight current research on cutting-edge education topics such as the neurobiology of learning, the effects of poverty, and the roles of technology and funding in shaping educational systems and approaches. Companion resources include downloadable data tables, background papers, and a series of blog entries by contributing experts.

This publication is part of the World Bank’s series of World Development Reports, which have been published annually since 1978 and serve as invaluable guides to the economic, social, and environmental state of the world. Each report provides in-depth analysis and policy recommendations on a specific and important aspect of development—from agriculture, the role of the state, transition economies, and labor to infrastructure, health, the environment, and poverty.
