Children's Health: Injuries

2017

These compiled resources on children and injuries are part of the resource pack on children’s health curated by the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator. Although every child in the world has the right to a safe environment and to protection from injury and violence, hundreds of thousands of children still die from injuries or violence every year, and many more suffer in the aftermath of non-fatal injuries. Everywhere in the world, children are exposed to different hazards and risks in their daily lives. The particular circumstances in which they live, however, differ greatly and shape the distribution of these vulnerabilities to injury. These selected resources introduce both unintentional and intentional injuries and violence. “Unintentional injuries” refer to things like traffic accidents, drowning, burns, poisonings, and falls. In contrast, “intentional injuries” refers to things like child abuse, armed violence, and suicide.
