Confronting Poverty: Tools for Understanding Economic Hardship
2023
This resource portal from Confronting Poverty provides tools for learning about poverty and inequality in the United States, including a 10-module discussion guide that addresses common questions related to poverty, and a research repository that offers books, articles, and papers on poverty. The site also hosts an interactive risk calculator, which allows the user to input metrics such as education level, age, and race/ethnicity; it then calculates the likelihood that the scenario will result in near poverty, poverty, or extreme poverty in the time period specified.
Confronting Poverty is a program developed by researchers Mark Rank (Washington University) and Thomas Hirschl (Cornell University) to put information on poverty in the hands of the American public. It was started to answer the basic question: “What is the likelihood that an American will experience poverty at some point in their lifetime?”
