Key Messages From DCP3, Volume 8: Child and Adolescent Health and Development

2018

This review article from The Lancet summarizes the analyses from volume eight of Disease Control Priorities, 3rd edition (DCP3), published by the World Bank, entitled “Child and Adolescent Health and Development.” The volume explores the health and developmental needs of children (ages 5-9) and adolescents (ages 10-19), and explores effective, scalable health interventions that can promote physical, cognitive, and intellectual development. The authors focus on two cost-effective intervention packages, one delivered in schools and one emphasizing later adolescence, that they argue could provide “phase-specific support across the life cycle,” solidify improvements gained from investments in early childhood, and leverage corresponding investments in education.
