Confronting Violence: Improving Women's Lives

2024

This resource portal, created by the National Library of Medicine, highlights how U.S. nurses in the late 20th century organized and advocated for health professionals to treat domestic violence as a serious health issue. Drawn from this grassroots history within the health system, the exhibit’s digital gallery features correspondence, early guidelines for care, and training videos reflecting the integral role health professionals play in prevention and treatment of domestic violence. Educator resources include high school- and university-level lesson plans on topics ranging from understanding dating violence data to discussing the ethics of reporting domestic violence in a health care environment.
