This Lancet Infectious Diseases Series examines the new and repurposed tuberculosis drugs, treatment regimens, and host-directed therapies under development, as well as developments and key achievements in the search for new tuberculosis diagnostics and biomarkers. Tuberculosis is responsible for more than 1.6 million deaths each year, and early and accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis, particularly drug-sensitive and drug resistant TB, is critical to achieving global disease control.
