Youth Family Planning Policy Scorecard

2022

This data dashboard from the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) allows users to access, analyze, and compare the youth family planning policies and programming for 28 countries in Africa and South Asia. The tool uses eight indicators—parental or spousal consent, provider authorization, age restrictions, restrictions based on marital status, access to a full range of family planning methods, comprehensive sexuality education, youth-friendly family planning service provision, and an enabling social environment—that have been shown to be directly linked to increased contraception use among youth.

The interactive dashboard allows users to toggle between a list or map view in which each country is classified using color-coded categories for each indicator, enabling users to assess how well the country’s policy environment—on a scale of strong to nonexistent—enables and supports youth access to and use of family. It is designed to be used by governments, donors, and advocates to evaluate policies, set priorities, guide resource allocation, and make comparisons across countries. Users can also download a companion document that includes country profiles along with background information about the methodology, data sources, and indicators used.
