International Food Security Assessment, 2023-2033

2023

This report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) assesses global food security trends in 83 low-and middle-income countries worldwide. Utilizing a demand-driven model, the report analyzes income, food prices, and food supply shocks to assess current and future levels of food security across five regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and the Former Soviet Union. The report finds that in 2023, food security is estimated to improve, with an estimated 228.9 million fewer people experiencing food security compared to 2022 estimates.

The report includes detailed estimates and long-term projections of food security per country, which considers factors such as GDP, population growth, and agricultural production. The report also analyzes the continued impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, increased food prices, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. The report also includes a special article on grain production estimates.

The report is accompanied by an executive summary.
