Public Spending on Health: A Closer Look at Global Trends

2018

This report from the World Health Organization (WHO) presents health spending data for all WHO Member States between 2000 and 2016 and demonstrates how global spending on health has been transformed, with increases in domestic public spending and declines in external financing. The report also examines spending on primary health care and specific diseases, and the relationship between spending and service coverage. It notes the central importance of domestic spending to universal health coverage but acknowledges that there is no clear trend of increased government priority for health.
