Lancet Series 2019: Security and Public Health

This Lancet series explores the relationship between the security sector—including the military and law enforcement—and public health. These two sectors often intersect in their attempts to address or respond to public or global health issues, such as disease outbreaks and humanitarian or environmental disasters. However, depending on the nature of the challenge, military involvement can sometimes have negative effects on health. The two-paper series summarizes the varied roles, responsibilities, and approaches of military forces in global health, provides policies that can help optimize the contributions of all participants to enhance global health, and explores the connections between law enforcement and global health at the global and local levels.
