Health Coverage and Care of Immigrants

2023

This fact sheet from the Kaiser Family Foundation summarizes key data and research about the health coverage of immigrants in the United States. In 2021, there were 20.8 million noncitizens—lawfully present and undocumented immigrants—in the United States, and noncitizens are much more likely than citizens to be uninsured. The fact sheet provides an additional overview of immigrants in the U.S., data on health coverage for people of different age groups and immigration status, information on barriers to health coverage and health care access, and the impact of the Trump administration and the COVID-19 pandemic on the health coverage of immigrants.
