State of the World's Nursing 2020 Country Profiles

2020

This portal from World Health Organization's (WHO) National Health Workforce Accounts (NHWA) provides country profiles accompanying the first State of the World's Nursing report. The country profiles, available for download, give an overview of demographic information and general population health indicators. Each profile assesses the country's capacity - yes, partial, or no - for several indicators related to education regulation, practice regulation, working conditions, and governance and leadership. The profiles also provide key statistics on nursing personnel, age and sex distribution, mobility, and figures on the nursing stock and density trends and share of nurses within the health workforce for each country.

The State of the World's Nursing report provides up-to-date evidence on, and policy options for, the global nursing workforce and the importance of investing in nursing education, jobs, and leadership to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for nurses and health coverage. Readers can access the other data in the NHWA portal and find the full report and its executive summary online.

The NHWA portal is a system used to improve the availability, quality, and use of data on the health workforce by monitoring various indicators in countries worldwide. The NHWA portal provides a comprehensive, standardized account of evidence and information on the global workforce and its progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, the SDGs, and other health objectives.
