WHO Climate Change and Health: Training Modules

2015

This training package from the World Health Organization (WHO) includes 16 modules on various climate change and health topics. Aimed at public health professionals, the modules are designed to also support professionals from other sectors, such as environment, transport, disaster preparedness, etc. Because of this intersectoral lens, the modules are flexible and adaptable for college and graduate classrooms as well. 

The modules are also designed to be standalone, and can be integrated into broader coursework or curriculum:

  • Module 3: Policies & Practice of Mitigation & Adaptation - Relevance to Health
  • Module 4: Assessment and Prediction of the Health Impacts of Climate Change

  • Module 7: Vector-Borne Diseases and Climate Change
  • Module 8: Water-Borne Diseases and Climate Change
  • Module 9: Food Security and Malnutrition
  • Module 10: Air Quality
  • Module 11: Assessing Health Vulnerability
  • Module 12: Adaptation to Climate Change
  • Module 13: Mitigation and Co-Benefits
  • Module 14: Health and the UNFCCC
  • Module 15: Disaster Risk Management
  • Module 16: Communicating Climate Change and Health

The training package also includes a comprehensive glossary on climate change and health. Each module outlines the purpose, preparation, required resources, timing, and instructions for delivery. Though initially designed for in-person classroom environments, the activities can be adapted for virtual and hybrid settings.
