Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative: Teaching Cases

2021

This selection of teaching cases from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government translate the most relevant and current knowledge about leadership, management, governance, and innovation in cities into open-access resources for teaching and learning. These cases, education guides, and practitioner guides are intended to aid mayors and city leaders in addressing critical issues through innovative thinking.

Teaching materials highlight specific social determinants of health, including transportation, housing, and other environmental factors, and would be suitable for discussion-based activities in interdisciplinary public health, development, and design classrooms. Each topic includes a case and education guide, as well as a practitioner guide. Many cases also included an epilogue. Incorporated among the teaching cases is a Peer-to-Peer Consultative Exercise Tool Kit, focusing on eliciting feedback and advice from peers in a safe environment, and a Public Value Toolkit, which provides videos, teaching cases, and a how-to guide for understanding public value creation.
