Key Messages: Human Rights and the Environment

2021

Key Messages: Human Rights and the Environment is a series published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) to highlight the human rights obligations of governments and other actors to address biodiversity, prevent habitat loss, and respond to COVID-19. The series includes four documents that discuss the ways in which environmental crises such as these can violate human rights around the world. The series includes four topics: human rights and biodiversity; human rights, the environment, and COVID-19; human rights and hazardous substances; and human rights, the environment, and gender equality. Each of these documents includes policies, strategies, and actions for governments to address biodiversity and the environment.
