2023

This report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provides a regional overview of food security and nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean. This report provides the latest data on undernourishment, food insecurity, and malnutrition in the region and measures progress toward meeting the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 targets for ending hunger globally. The 2023 report presents the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate crisis, and rising food prices on regional levels of hunger and food insecurity.

The report provides prevalence estimates for stunting, wasting, and overweight indicators for children under five and statistical tables for additional nutrition indicators, including adult obesity, breastfeeding, and low birthweight. The report is accompanied by comprehensive data tables that provide prevalence estimates for each nutrition indicator by country and a glossary that defines food security and nutrition terms used in the report.
