Tobacco Product Use and Associated Factors Among Middle and High School Students — National Youth Tobacco Survey, United States, 2021

2022

This data publication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention presents results from the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS), a cross-sectional, school-based, and self-administered survey of U.S. middle school (grades 6–8) and high school (grades 9–12) students. In 2021, one in eight high school students and one in 25 middle school students used tobacco in the previous 30 days. E-cigarettes were the most used tobacco products, and tobacco product use was higher among LGBT youth and youth reporting psychological distress. Exposure to tobacco industry marketing remains an area of relevant concern.
