Lancet Commission 2023: Synergies Between Universal Health Coverage, Health Security, and Health Promotion

2023

This Lancet Commission report analyzes the fragmentation between universal health coverage (UHC), health promotion, and health security, and examines how a synergistic approach between these agendas could improve global health. The report underscores that current investments, programs, and policies for UHC, health promotion, and health security are often not organized to function together, leading to impacts on global health, such as underinvestment, limited capacity to meet high healthcare demands, and increasing the risk of disease for populations worldwide.

The report analyzes data through reviews and country, sub-regional, and global case studies– and offers insight into how the COVID-19 pandemic shed light on issues of health security, health promotion, and UHC. The authors examine the tensions between these three concepts and offer recommendations for establishing synergy and improving global health for all. The report is accompanied by downloadable infographics
