This article published by the Lancet offers a brief introduction and overview of cholera, including its history, epidemiology, and how the disease develops and progresses in the body. The article discusses clinical features of cholera and examines the global burden of disease, along with prevention and control efforts, drawing on the World Health Organization’s Global Roadmap to 2030, which aims to end cholera by 2030. The authors also discuss what’s needed to address and reduce risks of cholera now–and in the future.
