Tobacco Atlas

2022

This online publication, released by Vital Strategies and Tobacconomics at Johns Hopkins University, examines the state and magnitude of the global tobacco epidemic and explores tobacco-related challenges and solutions. The 7th edition of the Atlas finds that while global smoking prevalence has fallen, there are still 1.1 billion tobacco users worldwide– a crisis posing significant threats to global health and economic development. The Atlas includes featured chapters on “Tobacco and the Environment” and “Race, Ethnicity and Equity." It also offers various chapters on challenges regarding tobacco use and control, including data on secondhand smoke, marketing, smoking prevalence, and COVID-19. The Atlas explores solutions to address the tobacco epidemic, such as taxes and cessation strategies. Topic chapters include interactive visuals and maps.
