Obesity: Health and Economic Consequences of an Impending Global Challenge

This report from the World Bank examines the global obesity and overweight epidemic and the economic and health impacts worldwide. The report outlines current trends concerning overweight and obesity– finding that in 2016, more than 2 billion people were overweight or obese, with over 70% living in low or middle-income countries. The report identifies opportunities for policy reform and investments to address overweight and obesity and offers country case studies outlining interventions and challenges. The report also includes an action agenda for countries to follow to address overweight and obesity and the role of international development institutions.
