Social Determinants of Health: Annotated Bibliography

2018

This annotated bibliography, curated by the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator at Harvard University, provides a selective sampling of resources designed to introduce high school and undergraduate students to the basic concepts of the social determinants of health. “Social determinants of health” (SDH) are the social factors external to an individual that may not seem directly relevant to health, but that ultimately shape the conditions in which people live, work, and grow in ways that can both promote well-being and confer disease risk. This resource was developed as part of a larger teaching pack on SDH; other companion materials in the pack include an instructor’s note, a teaching guide introducing educators to the concepts and frameworks discussed in the lessons and how to use them, four lessons with activities, and a glossary of terms.
