Teaching Pack: Polio Eradication

2017

This teaching pack on polio eradication explores the health care system challenges of eradicating an infectious and debilitating disease in two distinct conflict settings, Pakistan and Syria. Built around a four-part series of National Geographic articles on the social factors that influenced major polio outbreaks in conflict zones during the past decade, the pack includes an instructor’s guide; two lesson plans, “Polio Risk in a Messy World” and “Eradicating Polio in Conflict Settings,” each with discussion questions and suggested activities; as well as an annotated bibliography and glossary of terms specific to infectious disease and responses from governmental and humanitarian organizations in settings of conflict and violence. A more expansive resource pack on polio eradication is also available.
