Monitoring Food Security in Food Crisis Countries with Conflict Situations

2023

This report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) provides an update on the magnitude, severity, and drivers of acute food security in 19 countries and territories experiencing protracted conflict and insecurity worldwide. The report presents the state of acute food security, livelihood disruptions, and the need for humanitarian assistance in countries affected by conflict in 2022, which remains one of the main drivers of food crises globally.

For each of the countries, the report provides a “country brief,” which includes an estimate of the number of people experiencing food insecurity, along with a country-specific summary of factors affecting food security, which spans environmental, socio-political, and conflict-related causes. This year’s report also provides an in-depth analysis of how conflict has impacted food insecurity in three countries of concern: Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Haiti.
