Tracking Progress on Food and Agriculture-Related SDG Indicators 2023

2023

This report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) assesses global progress on the food- and agriculture-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2023 report emphasizes how the COVID-19 pandemic, armed conflicts, and climate change have resulted in severe adverse impacts, halting or reversing progress across several dimensions, including food insecurity and agricultural productivity.

The report analyzes global data and trends across several targets, including global hunger, poverty levels, food prices, land rights, agricultural losses, environmental degradation, and more. The report finds that in 2022, between 691 million and 783 million people remained hungry worldwide. The 2023 edition also includes additional data for indicators that impact food and agriculture, including the prevalence of stunting and malnutrition, land degradation, and agricultural losses resulting from disasters.

This report discusses progress and gaps for eight SDGs, SDG 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land). A digital version of the report is also available.
