Resource Pack: Health Systems and Universal Health Coverage

2024

This resource pack supports teaching and learning about national health systems and universal health coverage. Selected resources provide an overview of the objectives and functions of a national health system, discuss alternative frameworks, and explore cross-cutting themes such as health reform, health system financing, and quality of care. Strong health systems are the means through which universal health coverage (UHC) will be achieved - ensuring all people have access to quality health services without suffering financial hardship. Given the prominence of UHC on the global agenda, as exemplified by its inclusion in the sustainable development goals (SDGs), additional resources focus on models of implementation and metrics to monitor progress at the national, regional and global levels. This pack includes reports, research articles, and data resources. Brief annotations provide a cursory summary.

A companion resource pack, Health Systems and Universal Health Care: Country Cases, provides resources that illuminate and explore country-specific experiences.
