This lesson plan from the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) accompanies the 2023 World Population Data Sheet and aims to develop the data literacy skills and knowledge of geography for students in grades 6-12. The 2023 World Population Data Sheet, published annually by the Population Research Bureau (PRB), provides the latest data on key population, health, and environment indicators for major world regions and over 200 countries and territories. This year’s data sheet has a special focus on climate vulnerability and resilience, examining indicators such as the number of projected deaths due to temperature changes, food insecurity, and the number of internally displaced persons due to disasters. Overall, the data sheet provides an overview of the demographic trends that shape our world of 8.01 billion people and further illuminates future projected trends.
