Tobacco Product Use Among Middle and High School Students—United States, 2011-2018

2019

This article, published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reveals that there is no longer a decrease in use of tobacco products among youth, due to the rising use of e-cigarettes. Research showed that 4.04 million high school students and 840,000 middle school students were using a tobacco product in the United States, and e-cigarettes were the most commonly used product among these populations, reaching epidemic proportions. During 2017-2018, e-cigarette use increased by 77.8% among high school students and 48.5% among middle school students. The article emphasizes the need for regulations and implementation of education media campaigns to address this issue.
