Resource Pack: Antimicrobial Resistance

2023

The emergence of drug-resistant microbes threatens our ability to fight and control infectious diseases, making antimicrobial resistance of the world’s top global health risks. This resource pack supports teaching and learning about antimicrobial resistance, with focus on the mechanisms by which it develops and spreads and how global collaboration in monitoring and prevention is needed to protect the effectiveness of antimicrobial medications.

The problem of antimicrobial resistance is multidisciplinary in nature, rooted in the interconnected relationship between medicine, agriculture, environmental pollution, and evolution. This collection includes a curated selection of reports, articles, fact sheets, data, and portals that span these different disciplines to provide a broad overview of the trends, progress, and challenges of addressing antimicrobial resistance. Data resources include a variety of indicators for monitoring the emergence and spread of resistant microbe strains.

These resources may be useful to educators as they develop lesson plans, activities, or assignments focusing on antimicrobial resistance. Learners may apply analytical skills through exploration of data portals and interactives, use articles as case examples for discussion, or focus on issues related to specific aspects of antimicrobial resistance and its prevention.

The Global Health Education and Learning Incubator at Harvard University supports interdisciplinary education about world health through the production, curation, and dissemination of educational public goods.
