The American Freshman: National Norms Fall 2017

2019

This report by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA summarizes findings from the 2017 Freshman Survey, which describes the demographic characteristics, behaviors, and attitudes of over 120,000 first-year students at nearly 170 four-year colleges across the U.S. Findings from 2017 emphasize the importance of pre-college experiences such as campus visits and AP course participation. Findings note that compared to their parents’ generation, today’s students are more likely to spend time studying and socializing. Publications describing prior years' results are also available for download, as well as a monograph documenting trends in responses from 1966 to 2015.
