Understanding Threats to Polio Vaccine Commitment Among Caregivers in Afghanistan
2017
This Lancet Infectious Diseases article examines the knowledge, attitude, and experiences of caregivers in Afghanistan associated with oral polio vaccination. The authors focused on districts of Afghanistan at high risk for polio transmission and leveraged a poll using face-to-face interviews among caregivers of children under 5 years of age. Key findings from the study suggest an approach that builds trust in vaccinators, provides facts about disease transmission, and shares positive messages to overcome rumors and strengthen community support for vaccination.
