Rights of Way: Child Poverty & Road Traffic Injury in the SDGs

2016

This report from the FIA Foundation and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) addresses the effects of road traffic injuries on poor families in low- and middle-income societies. Highlighting problems such as exposure to unsafe road environments, reliance on unsafe modes of transport, and low levels of supervision and support for children, the report recommends worldwide policy that protects vulnerable road users, especially children who need to go to-and-from school safely.  The report explains that reducing traffic speeds and prioritizing vulnerable road users when making policy decisions are two key ways, among others, to best address this issue.
