Communicating to Advance the Public's Health

This National Academies report summarizes the proceedings of a multidisciplinary workshop exploring the science of health communication. The workshop, held in September 2014 by the Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Population Health Improvement, engaged individuals and organizations representing different sectors in a dialogue about the science of health communication, audiences, and messaging. Participants explored what it will take to generate widespread awareness, acceptance, and action to improve health, including messaging through the entertainment media, the news media, and social media. This report summarizes the presentations and discussion of the workshop.
