Global Health Impacts of Vector-Borne Diseases

2016

This National Academies workshop report investigates trends in the occurrence and prevalence of vector-borne diseases in an increasingly global and ecologically fluctuating world. Revisiting a topic first discussed in 2007, the Forum on Microbial Threats hosted a new workshop in September 2014 to assess these patterns, and to address recent developments to meet these evolving threats. Participants examined the emergence and global movement of vector-borne diseases, new priorities for understanding their biology and ecology, and global progress toward their prevention, control, and mitigation. This document summarizes the presentations given and the conclusions made during the workshop.
