Global Road Safety: Country Profiles

These country profiles offered by the World Health Organization (WHO) accompany The Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018. This report provides a snapshot of the road safety situation globally, highlighting both progress and challenges. The number of annual road deaths has reached 1.35 million and road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for people aged 5-29 years. Most of the deaths described are comprised of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and are concentrated in developing countries.  

The Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018 reflects information from 175 countries, with 123 having road traffic laws that meet best practices for one or more key risk factors. Risk factors include drink-driving, motorcycle helmet use, child restraint systems, the use of seatbelts, as well as the implementation of speed limits.
